Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Botox ( Botulinum Toxin A) is a purified muscle protein injections given to erase dynamic or expression lines. Most of us become aware of the need of botox when those frown lines or the crow's feet around eyes are noticed in the mirror or a photograph. Very often it is a friend or family member who draws attention to these lines. It could also happen when your dermatologist tells you about this service and you realize you really need it.
Right from the time when a child is born, he/she is a candidate for botox injections. Remember botox is used to target the expression lines which are present right from young age. I have clients as young as 20 coming and asking for this treatment. There is no harm even if you start taking it very early in life.
Get this treatment done with a botox certified doctor. Since the technique of injection and the experience of the injector is very important, it is important to check on the credentials of the injector first. The doctor can be a dermatologist, plastic surgeon or even a general practitioner who is especially trained in this service.
Be sure he is not fleecing you. A botox injector can be a dermatologist, plastic surgeon or a MBBS doctor also provided he / she is trained particularly in botox. Abroad even trained nurses give botox injections who are well certified.
Definitely, everyone going for botox requires counseling. Botox is a toxin which paralyses the muscles in which it is injected. The person needs to understand that this medications actually relaxes the muscle in which it is injected and the action will last only for a maximum period of 6 months. Also if injected into the correct muscle, it does not have any side effects.
Botox is available as 100 unit vial to which 2.5 ml normal saline is added. The dosage of botox is measured in units. For example for frown lines, somewhere between 20 - 24 units are used. The dosage of botox depends on many factors, most important on sex. Males have a higher muscle mass and so require higher doses than women. Also the area where botox is injected as more used muscle will metabolize the drug faster. There are other factors like racial difference etc. which are less important.
If injected into the wrong muscle or injected incorrectly and botox goes into the wrong muscle, it can cause paralysis of the muscle. However this paralysis is temporary and resolves in a few weeks. The paralysis around eyes can cause drooping of eyelids, arould jaw can cause weakness of chewing, neck can cause difficulty in swallowing, forehead can cause asymmetry of the brows and around mouth can hamper lip movements. However, if trained well , these untoward instances never happen.
Most of the times botox grievance can be corrected by the doctor who has injected it. All the injector has to do is inject a few units in the reverse muscle. However if the action cannot be reversed, waiting for a few weeks will anyways resolve the action.
I dont think so that botox can be bought by non practitioners However, even if you mange to procure one, you always required a certified doctor to inject it. Hence such things should never be tried.
Yes lots. If you would be interested, let me tell you that botox was not originally a drug used for cosmetic indications. It was actually used for eyes for squints etc. Then in serendipity it was discovered that it erases wrinkles as well. Apart from the wrinkles on face, it is also used to reduce sweating in underarms and palms n soles. Also there are other indications like migraine headache, scar revision etc.
The DERMAROLLER treatment is done for treating Acne Scar This process induces collagen production which is responsible for more strength and elasticity and fills up the depth of pits and thereby reducing the scars.
The DERMAROLLER treatment will take 20 minutes to an hour depending on the area to be treated.
No. DERMAROLLER treatment has been done world wide for past three years and so far no side effects are reported The face appears to be red or pink which will subside in 24 hours.
The formation of new collagen fibres and a new tissue needs time. Ideally 4-5 visits are required with a time a gap of 4-5 weeks between each visit to see dramatic results however your doctor will diagnose and give you the clear picture of the number of treatments required.
Shortly after the commencement of the treatment the skin will more or less start to get red which will subside within few days to 1-2 weeks. It's a very short treatment and one can resume back to their work within 24 hrs.
Scar treatment belongs in the hands of an experienced professional. In many cases the needles of a CIT DERMAROLLER are sufficient to soften acne scars. Bigger scars caused by accidents and/or operations must be treated in general with the DERMAROLLER.They often have a stringent, hard tissue. The DERMAROLLER has special hardened needles they perforate the scar tissue easily without becoming dull. The scars become softer, less elevated and in most cases re-pigmented.
Laser Hair Removal In Darker Skin Types
A laser is a device that produces light of a single color or wavelength. These lasers produce pulses of high-energy light that is taken up by the desired target. In the case of hair removal, the target is the melanin pigment contained within the hair shaft. Laser produces long-term hair reduction by producing heat in the hair, which is transferred to the hair follicle, which in-turn produces inflammation, and this inflammation damages the hair follicle.
The catch is that though laser effectively removes the hair, it can damage the skin at the same time as the skin contains the same melanin that hair shaft contains. In Indian skins and the darker skin types (type V and VI), the skin is loaded with melanin. Hence the trick in laser hair removal is targeting the hair shaft without damaging the melanin on the surface of the skin. Thus the laser light has to be on long enough to heat the hair, but not too long to allow that heat to spread to the surrounding skin causing damage. For this reason, there has been search for ideal lasers which can strike an ideal balance between the efficacy as well as the safety of lasers in dark skin types. On the contrary, laser hair removal in white skins is relatively easy as the skin melanin is less and hence less chances of skin burns and complications.
The selection of ideal laser for hair removal depends on the wavelength. The ideal wavelength would be a laser between 750 to 900nm. The alexandrite laser 755nm where the absorption of melanin is highest is the most powerful, but unfortunately the skin melanin has higher chances of damage at that wavelength. So alexandrite did not do well on darker skins. Next in line was diode laser 810nm which was ideal for hair removal but the pain as well as the burns on tanned skin was an issue. Next to arrive in India was the NdYAG laser 1064 nm which was high on safety but there again the efficacy was compromised. Most recent is diode in the Super hair removal mode (SHR) which eliminates both pain as well as the skin complications. In addition to lasers, intense pulsed light sources are also used for hair removal. It may be more difficult to predict the outcome and avoid complications when using light sources that contain many wavelengths of light.
Normally, a series of 5-6 treatments are administered at 4-10 weeks intervals depending upon the body area treated. Following the initial few treatments, subsequent treatments are administered, usually at longer and longer intervals. After a single treatment, the hair in a given area is usually reduced in density of hair as well as the thickness. Some number of maintenance treatments may be needed to keep all the hair away in a given area. This depends on the area being treated as well as the individual.
Depending on the area to be lased, 5 min ( for upper lip, chin) to 1 hr ( for legs) per treatment could be required. Its like the larger the area, the longer the time required as the laser tip is usually small (max 12mm X 12mm). Hence large area takes longer time.
Before you decide on the proper removal method first determine that the cause of the hair growth is not hormonal. If you are experiencing an abnormal growth of hair on face or if the hair is very thick, you should consult your doctor to determine the underlying causes before you embark on a removal regimen. If there is a hormonal irregularity, chances are that either you will not get full result or you might have a recurrence. So ensure that your hormone specialist gives you a go before you decide to do laser. Usually there should be no waxing or threading done 1-2 weeks prior to the laser and it is best if your doctors sees you with the hair growth. If there is recent excessive tanning, laser should best be avoided. After laser, usually a soothing lotion or a mild steroid is applied for 1-2 days at night and sunscreen in daytime.
In India, the females wish to remove facial hair, bikini and underarms. The next popular is arms and legs as this gets you rid of the hassle of waxing and shaving for all your life. However men too are increasingly demanding HR for cheeks, ear, chest and underarms. However remember to get your skin checked by a doctor before deciding on this procedure. This procedure is not for everyone. Laser is attracted to a dark pigment, so your hair must be considerably darker than your skin. If your hair is very light, or if your skin is quite dark the results might be less. The best candidate will have light skin and dark, visible hair.
Though pain sensation is relatively subjective most people don't report much discomfort. Some say it is like a rubber band snapping against your skin, others describe it as a stinging or a burning sensation. If you don't take pain well, topical anesthetics or else a cold air blow can be used. Coming to the side effects, if you have the right person doing the treatment with the right technology, the side effects are nil. You might experience a temporary skin redness, that might feel like a sunburn, but this clears in 1-2 days maximum. With the newer super hair removal technology(SHR) introduced with the diode laser in India, the pain and side effects are none.
The following are the basic facts about laser HR that one should be aware prior to considering this option:
"Laser hair removal is till date the most popular treatment at my clinic and must say most earning too. India has a tremendous potential for hair removal. I have used mostly all lasers for Indian skin types. No doubt diode is my favorite as it is most efficacious, but with dark and tanned skin we get complications. However, we are now using the newer Super hair removal technology in diode and must say that I am very very happy with the results so far. My patients love it as it is fast, almost painless and is less time consuming"
A mild acid is applied to the skin, causing it to shed the first few layers of skin cells.
Peels take away dead skin cells and compel the generation of new skin, thus eliminating fine lines, wrinkles, sun spots, blotchiness, dryness acne and a host of other mild skin conditions.
A typical treatment should take no longer than 15 minutes.
The skin will shed and peel over the next 4-7 days and will have the look of dry skin.
With the normal ageing process, skin becomes lax and loses its turgor and texture. Collagen fibres become loose and damaged. Moreover fat collection due to erratic food habits adds to the sagging of skin especially over the neck causing double chin, abdomen, love handles, and arms. Skin tightening is a procedure wherein all these changes are reversed by using specific technology.
Skin tightening is a combination of radiofrequency and ultrasound waves. Ultrasound targets the adipocytes or the fat cells of the skin, causing their breakdown which is known as lipolysis. The radiofrequency waves targets collagen fibres causing remodeling of thesefibres. This remodeling of collagen gives feeling of tightening to the skin. It also acts over the fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes and crows feet.
Usually 5-7 sittings are required for each area depending on the laxity of the skin. Treatment of each area takes about 30-60 mins. The sessions have to be repeated every week as the effect of each session starts after 2-3 days and reaches a peak at about 7 days. So if we target the area again after 7 days, maximum results are seen.
It causes feeling of heat over the area where it is done which is best described as a hot stone massage. Mild redness occurs over the site which lasts for 30-40 mins and settles later. Heat given is usually the maximum which is tolerated by the patient. Heat generated upto 40-42°C gives the best results.
One should make sure to drink a lot of water during the pre- treatment and post treatment time as the excretion of fat is through the urine.
The results depend on age and generic make up of the person. After 5-7 sessions at weekly intervals, the results last for 1 year or even longer. It is best to get a touch up session done during this time. Moreover, following a healthy lifestyle and the right food habits further prolongs the effects.
Liposuction is an invasive surgical procedure whereas in our clinic we have the non invasive technology. Liposuction mainly targets the fat cells and gives a good contour to the body whereas this technology gives skin tightening and reduces cellulite.
Vampire Facelift or Dracula Facelift
The fancy" Vampire lift" or the "Dracula lift" is a new type of facelift which is gaining popularity in which patient's own blood is injected to smooth wrinkles, brighten the skin as well as to reduce pigmentation and blemishes.
It is a great non surgical, no downtime treatment for dull ,damaged and ageing skin and especially for those who do not wish to go for fillers and botox. It stimulates collagen and improve the skin's texture and elasticity.
15-20ml of your blood is drawn in the doctors clinic as though you are having routine blood testing. The blood is spun in a centrifuge machine and the PRP is separated and removed from the rest of the blood. After spinning, the platelets and other vital growth proteins raise to the top of the tube. Under a topical anesthesia cream, this PRP is injected into the face or the scalp either with a insulin needle or a machine.
Mild swelling and redness of the treated areas is common especially around eyes for a few days. Some bruising is also to be expected but this can be covered with make-up . The non-invasive, FDA-approves procedure is relatively safer as the chance of allergic reaction is minimized due to the fact that the injected material is the patient's own blood
Yes. A series of 4-6 treatments in diffuse hair loss and early balding gives very good results. However, the results are much better when done in combination with stem cell treatment.
Apart from being extremely safe and relatively inexpensive, it gives long term results and with almost no downtime. It gives you the face which everyone desires: Fair, glowing, smooth, tighter and blemish free skin!
